Fried Chicken and Savannah

I have a slight obsession with fried chicken. Its definitely one of my guilty pleasures in life (along with bubble tea and cupcakes) so I knew a Southern vacation meant I would be indulging in tons of fried chicken. Needless to say, Savannah did not disappoint with its variety of Southern cuisine!

We started off our vacation Friday night by eating at Treylor Park- there were SO many delicious looking items on the menu that I actually wavered and almost chose something else. But in the end I still went with the unique chicken and pancake tacos. The wait here was pretty long (around 1 hour) so I would suggest arriving early or exploring River Street during your wait time (they'll text you when your table is ready). Don't be scared by the estimated wait time though because they actually told us 1.5 hours but we sat before that.

Saturday morning brunch was at the Cajun inspired restaurant, Huey’s on the River where I feasted on the flavorful fried chicken eggs benedict. The wait here was also pretty long so we headed to the famous Leopold's ice cream for a pre meal dessert.

On Sunday I was planning to try the popular local bakery, Back in the Day, but it ended up being closed (it's closed on Sundays beware) so we ended up at the Driftaway Cafe where I ordered the fried chicken biscuit with gravy. I also tried fried green tomatoes for the first time here! Driftaway is walkable distance from Wormsloe Historic Site so come here to fill up your stomach after taking those amazing photos.

For our last dinner in Savannah, we managed to get seats at the famous Olde Pink House. Instead of going for the fried chicken, however, I decided to order the fried oysters and the baked mac and cheese. Both were DELICIOUS, but the highlight of my meal was the homemade lemonade. It was sweet and sour all at the same time without leaving me feeling like I was drinking too much sugar.  If you’re only able to eat in the Savannah area for one meal, I definitely recommend making this your first choice. Try to make a reservation in advance, but if that doesn't happen don't worry because they have walk in tables available as well.
